Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer surrendered an early goal to Hawaii Hilo in a 1-0 loss inside Pioneer Stadium on Tuesday night. UHH's Caroline Stromack fired from outside the 18-yard box in the eighth minute to end the Pioneers unbeaten streak at four matches.

The lone score came on only the second shot attempt of the game and the first by Hawaii Hilo (3-1-1). Stromick was aligned center goal and about 20 yards away. Her right footed strike sunk low and to the right to put the Vulcans on top at the 7:19 mark.

"Overall we didn't do a good job at the simple things. Our technical execution was poor," said East Bay Head Coach Amy Gerace. "After giving up the early goal, we struggled to settle in and find our rhythm of play."

The Cal State East Bay attack came in flurries as the home side took four of its five first half shots within the opening 16 minutes. Rachel Armstrong and Janelle Herrera combined to play three shots on target but the Pioneers trailed at halftime.

Despite scoring 11 of its 13 goals in the second half heading into Tuesday's match the Pioneers were held scoreless. Megan Ravenscroft and Suzanne Bateson combined to take three shots over the final three minutes but came up empty in search of the equalizer.

"That response toward the end of the game was what we were looking for in terms of intensity and energy. Unfortunately we weren't able to come up with the goal," Gerace added.

Cal State East Bay was shut out for only the second time in seven matches this season. Both of the team's losses have been 1-0 results in which the team allowed a first half goal.

Vulcans goalkeeper Jenna Hufford posted four saves in her solo shutout effort, improving her season record to 3-0-0. Pioneers goalkeeper Selena Braun made four stops in the loss.

Cal State East Bay (3-2-2, 0-0-0 CCAA) will open league play on Friday, Sept. 26, at home against Humboldt State (5-1-0, 0-0-0 CCAA).
