TURLOCK, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball returns to action on Friday, April 4, to compete at the 13th Annual Tournament of Champions hosted by Cal State Stanislaus at the Turlock and Pedretti Sports Complexes. The Pioneers will play at minimum six games over three days and open their weekend schedule against Western Oregon at 8 a.m.

Schedule: Tournament of Champions

Cal State East Bay (14-18) will take on WOU, Saint Martin's, and Simon Fraser on Friday at Field 2 of the Turlock Sports Complex. On Saturday the Pioneers will play a pair of morning games against Montana State Billings and Western Washington on the fields of the Pedretti Sports Complex. In total, CSUEB will play five games in a span of about 30 hours prior to Sunday's bracket play.

East Bay starting pitcher Emily Perlich is set to face Western Oregon in the team's tournament opener. The Stayton, Ore. native stated that she would have attempted to walk on with the Wolves if it was not for Head Coach Barbara Pierce reaching out to her this past spring.

"It's kind of funny that we are playing them. Three of my former (travel ball) teammates are on the team," said Perlich. "We've stayed in contact through Facebook and it is going to be fun to see them and play against them. It's going to be a little nerve racking. They don't want to lose to their friend, and I don't want to lose to my friends. It's going to be fun, but I am a little nervous."

Since 2009 Cal State East Bay has faced Western Washington, Saint Martin's, and Montana State Billings once each, suffering narrow defeats in all three contests. The Pioneers have not battled Simon Fraser or Montana State Billings during that stretch.
