Twitter (Art U) BRISBANE, Calif. – Cal State East Bay will play its final non-conference and road doubleheader of the regular season on Wednesday, April 16, against the Academy of Art. The mid-week make-up date stems from Feb. 26 when the two teams' original meeting was rained out.

Projected Game 1 StartersCal State East Bay enters the two-game set off the heels of earning its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series sweep since April 2012. The Pioneers won all four games in its home series with Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend.
The Pioneer power surge was highlighted by a three home run weekend from CCAA Player of the Week Kelsey LaVaute. Nine of the team's 20 hits were big flies as East Bay out slugged San Bernardino .533 to .374 in the series.
Pitchers Jordan Abel (6-3, 2.75) and Emily Perlich (10-12, 3.50) both went 2-0 and tossed complete games in each of their two starts. Abel notched her first career shutout in a 1-0 game two victory on Friday. Perlich set the East Bay program record with 13 strikeouts in an 8-1 game one win on Saturday.
The Urban Knights suffered a four-game sweep to Azusa Pacific this past weekend. They will be playing games seven and eight of a 10 game homestand which started on Wednesday, April 9, against Holy Names.
Art U's Taylor Thurman was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week after hitting .400 with 12 RBI in six games. She leads the team with 41 RBI, four homers, 11 doubles, and a .595 slugging percentage this season.
Jill Johnson (7-9, 4.29) and Carlee Emerson (3-10, 6.75) have combined to start 31 of Art U's 36 games in the circle this season. Johnson has thrown seven complete games and struck out 65 batters in 98 innings this season. Emerson has three complete games while opposing batters are hitting at a .380 clip in 2014.
Cal State East Bay (20-23) has won the past five meetings including a pair of 3-2 victories in 2013.
Lauren Vestal scored the game-winning run in walk-off fashion during last year's opener with the Urban Knights.
Mandy Dale contributed an RBI single in game two to open the scoring as the Pioneers held on for the win and the season sweep.
