Final Results
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team backed up its first-round 318 (+30) with a 317 (+29) on Tuesday to finish in a tie for fifth place out of 17 schools at the 2014 Mustang Intercollegiate, hosted by Western New Mexico University. The Pioneers' total of 635 (+59) at Palm Valley Golf Course put them even with both CSU San Marcos and Dixie State.
Saint Edward's rallied from seven strokes down in the second round to finish at +36 and win by one stroke over second-place Chico State (+37). Cal Baptist finished third at +42, and West Texas A&M took fourth at +50.
Senior
Andrea Castellanos followed up her individual championship last week with a sixth-place finish in Arizona. She fired a 75 (+3), the lowest round of the day for the Pioneers, to finish at 151 (+7), which was five strokes off the lead.
Linda Brown carded her second consecutive 79 (+7) in the second round. The junior ended up in a tie for 26th in the overall field of 87 golfers with a total score of 158 (+14).
Fellow junior
Arielle Swan-Smith pitched in an 82 (+10) on Tuesday to finish at 161 (+17) for the tournament and in a tie for 34th.
Sophomore
Melissa Hosman was a key to East Bay's strong final round, shaving three strkes off her Monday score with an 81 (+9). She placed in a tie for 52nd place at 166 (+22).Â
Senior
Ysabel Cabreira rounded out the Pioneer scoring, carding her second straight 84 (+12) to finish in 66th at 168 (+24).Â
The first NCAA regional rankings will be released on Tuesday, April 2, as the Pioneers look to put themselves into position for a postseason berth. CSUEB has one tournament left on its spring schedule, next week's Sonoma State Invitational in Rohnert Park, Calif.Â
