SEASIDE, Calif. -- Cal State East Bay's Andrea Castellanos led the Pioneer women's golf team to a sweep at the 2014 Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay. Castellanos fired the lowest score of the day to win the individual title, and the team claimed a three-stroke victory for its second tournament championship of the spring.

The Pioneers shot a collective score of 629 (+53) at the par-72 Blackhorse Golf Course, finishing three strokes ahead of Augustana University and the host Otters, who tied for second place. East Bay entered today's action trailing CSUMB by three strokes, but they bested the home team 318 to 324 on Tuesday to take over first place.

Castellanos captured her second career tournament crown with a comeback victory of her own. The senior trailed three golfers after a 74 (+2) on Monday, but she fired another 74 (+2) in tougher conditions to finish at 148 (+4) for the week. The Union City native ended up tied with Monterey Bay's Audra Kepler, but she won the tie-breaker thanks to a lower second-round score.

"Our top three golfers played amazingly this week," said head coach Alan Sue. "Andrea's ball-striking was outstanding."

This is the fourth straight tournament in which the Pioneers produced the individual champion. Junior Linda Brown won the last three events and almost made it four, finishing just one stroke behind her teammate and taking third place overall. Brown carded a 77 (+5) on Tuesday for a two-round total of 149 (+5).

Arielle Swan-Smith turned in a strong performance, as well, finishing in a tie for 10th place in the overall field of 79 golfers. The junior carded a final-round 78 (+6), giving her a total of 157 (+13).

Sophomore Melissa Hosman shot an 89 (+17) to finish tied for 65th place at 175 (+31), and senior Ysabel Cabreira rounded out the Pioneer scoring with a 94 (+22) in Tuesday's round. She placed 71st with a total score of 180 (+36).

"The team supported each other this week, and it showed in the overall performance," added Sue. "This is the first step in how we need to finish the season in order to make the NCAA regional championship. We have to be ready for another tough field next week."

Cal State East Bay travels to Goodyear, Ariz. next week to compete in the team's penultimate regular season tournament of the year, hosted by Western New Mexico University on Mar. 31 and Apr. 1.
