HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay will host Dominican at Pioneer Field for a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday, March 23, starting at Noon. The two teams will be making up the pair of games originally scheduled on Feb. 8 as the Pioneers season and home opener.

Cal State East Bay (9-17) enters the weekend coming off a 5-1 road victory over nationally ranked No. 6 Humboldt State. It was the first time this season that starting pitcher Emily Perlich tossed both games of a doubleheader as she picked up the win. Over her past eight outings she has lowered her season ERA from 5.60 to 3.54.

Teammate Lauren Vestal leads the Pioneers with her .363 batting average. She also leads the squad with five 2-hit games, five 3-hit games, and 10 multi-hit games. Jaynie MacDonald had two home runs in the win over HSU and extended her team-best hitting streak to six games. Marisa Lerma currently leads the squad with her active and team-best streak of nine games in which she has reached base safely.

Dominican (11-10) pitcher Ashlyn Moriarty is arguably the ace of the pitching staff with an 8-3 record and 2.07 ERA in 11 starts. The rest of the Penguin hurlers have combined for a 3-7 record and 5.58 ERA prior to the weekend.

Tori Johnson leads the regular starters with her .391 batting average, 13 runs scored, and 25 base hits. Kayleigh Klingberg leads the team with 12 RBI and 10 extra base hits, including the only three Penguin homers this season.

Since the 2010 season Cal State East Bay has dominated the series posting a 9-3 record against Dominican. However the Penguins have won three of the past five meetings including a split to conclude last year's Tournament of Champions.
