CHICO, Calif.
-- Cal State East Bay junior Linda Brown won her third straight tournament on Tuesday with a narrow victory at the Interwest Wildcat Classic, hosted by Chico State at Canyon Oaks Country Club. Brown finished at 153 (+9) overall at the par-72 course and beat Academy of Art's Deanna Tyndall with a par on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to claim the individual championship.

The Pioneers finished fourth at the five-team event with a two-round total of 661 (+85). They played much better collectively on Tuesday than on Monday, cutting 11 strokes off their team score. Sonoma State captured the team title at +69, followed by Academ of Art in second (+76) and Chico State in third (+79). The Pioneers managed to edge out fifth-place Cal State Monterey Bay (+86).

Brown fired a 76 (+4) in the second round to follow up her 77 on Monday. Tyndall mirrored her with scores of 77 and 76, forcing extra holes between the two to determine a champion. The hardware is starting to pile up for the San Leandro native, who won individual titles at the CSUSB Coyote Classic and East Bay's home tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootoiut, the past two weeks.

Brown led the field in par-four scoring at +5 overall and her 23 total pars were the most by any golfer on the course over the two rounds.

Senior Andrea Castellanos finished in a tie for fifth place after carding an 82 (+10) on Tuesday. She finished at 159 (+15) overall.

Sophomore Melissa Hosman and senior Ysabel Cabreira both substantially improved their scores from the first round to the second. Hosman shaved six strokes off for a second-round 84 (+12), which put her in 21st place at 174 (+30). Cabreira lowered her total by nine strokes, carding an 83 (+11) to finish right behind her teammate at 175 (+31) in 22nd place.

Junior Jackie Ang fired a 93 (+21) in the final round and finished in 26th place at 189 (+45) overall.

The Pioneer women next compete in two weeks when they travel to Seaside to participate in the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational on Mar. 24-25.
