Box Score SAN FRANCISCO -- A 47-point second half by San Francisco State spelled doom for the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team, which fell to the Gators, 81-57, on the road Friday night. The Pioneers (7-20, 4-17 CCAA) trailed by three at halftime, but they shot just 34 percent from the field in the second half as the Gators (13-11, 11-10 CCAA) took control of the game.

Gabe Kindred and Nick Grieves led East Bay with 17 points each in the loss. Four SF State players scored in double figures, led by Nefi Perdomo with 23.

"Coach Trevor had his team playing at a high level tonight," said head coach Gus Argenal. "They defended and forced tempo all night. We played a solid first half, but could not sustain it, and ultimately we had breakdowns that created a deficit we couldn't recover from."

The Pioneers never led in the game, despite keeping the score tight for the first 25 minutes or so. They trailed by as many as eight in the first half before heating up from outside in the final minutes befor halftime. Grieves, Donavon Jackson, and Jacari Whitfield all knocked down three-pointers as East Bay cut its deficit to 32-31.

Unfortunately, the shots didn't continue fall for the Pioneers in the second half. They went just 2-for-14 from behind the arc in the frame, allowing the home team to stretch out its lead. The Gators went on a 14-2 run after the first media timeout of the half to go up by 16 points, and then cruised to the victory from there.

For the game, SF State out-shot East Bay 48 percent to 39 percent from the floor. They also controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Pioneers 39 to 23. Both teams were called for 15 personal fouls, but the Gators got to the line 22 times, while the Pioneers attempted just nine free throws.

Six of those attempts were by Kindred, who made five of them to extend his single-season school record to 150 made foul shots. The senior was 5-for-9 from the field, adding four rebounds and three assists in his 20th double-digit scoring game of the season.

Grieves finished 6-for-12 shooting, including 5-for-10 from long range in 26 minutes off the bench. The junior matched his season highs for three-pointers made and total points, set on Nov. 26 against William Jessup.

Senior Ryan Hebebrand paced the Pioneers with six rebounds and added five points on 2-for-2 from the floor. Jacari Whitfield notched six points, four boards, and four assists in a team-high 33 minutes.

Junior Jarred Jourdan added four points and three assists, while Jackson posted three points in his second straight start.

The Cal State East Bay men will conclude the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday night against Sonoma State. The Pioneers have lost 10 straight games, but with a victory tomorrow, the team can close out the season with more wins than the 2012-13 squad accumulated.

"Saturday night will be a huge game for our program to finish strong on the road," added Argenal.
