Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay split Saturday's conference doubleheader with San Francisco State to win the 'Battle of the Bay' series three games to one. CSUEB opened the day at Pioneer Field with a resounding 13-5 win before the Gators salvaged the finale scoring all of their offense in the final three frames of a 12-7 decision.

Lauren Vestal and Chelsie Kakela were the primary contributors to the team's 20 runs on the day as the two combined to go 10-for-15 (.667) at the plate and collect 12 runs batted in. A seven-run second inning rally started with a Vestal RBI single and was capped with a Kakela two-run homer. A bases clearing double from Jaynie MacDonald was the major catalyst in the highest scoring inning this season for the Pioneers.

Vestal finished the opening game 3-for-3 after a fourth inning RBI double and a game-ending sixth inning two-run double. The Pioneers run ruled the Gators in both Friday's and Saturday's opening game.

East Bay pitcher Jordan Abel (1-0) earned her first collegiate victory after tossing three scoreless innings of relief. Emily Perlich, who earned a win and a save in two games yesterday, lasted 3+ innings and was chased in the fourth after allowing three of her five runs in the frame.

All nine starting field players recorded at least one base hit for the Pioneers. Courtney Gravel, Lyndsi Garcia, and Aryn Guzman led the Gators with two hits and an RBI apiece.

The four game sweep was in sight for the Pioneers as Kakela broke a scoreless tie with a third inning bases clearing triple. It looked like more than enough support for starting pitcher Kelsey Cairns who held San Francisco State (5-6, 1-3 CCAA) to just three singles and no runs over the first four innings.

The fifth inning spelled trouble as the potential inning ending play was not completed and SFSU pulled to within 3-2. Cairns forced the game-tying run home on a bases loaded walk, and Aryn Guzman's ensuing two-run double gave the Gators their first lead of the game.

Vestal would provide East Bay's second bases clearing hit and give the home side a 6-5 lead through five innings. However two costly errors in the sixth, another in the seventh and a pair of wild pitches later the Pioneers suffered their first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) loss of the year.

Cal State East Bay (3-3, 3-1 CCAA) will be on the road Tuesday, Feb. 18, against Notre Dame de Namur (4-5).
