Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting UC San Diego squad on Saturday night, losing at home to the Tritons by a score of 83-67. The Pioneers (7-17, 4-14 CCAA) shot 48 percent in the game and got a career-high 14 points from Aaron Cameron, but it wasn't enoguh to overcome a UCSD team that scored 49 second-half points.

"I was impressed with the way that UCSD competed tonight. They executed and showed extreme toughness in the second half," praised Head Coach Gus Argenal about Saturday night's opponent. "We needed to match their intensity but could not sustain it for the entire game. They were better on both end of the floor."

UCSD led by as many as eight in the first half, but the Pioners were able to keep it close, and the teams went to halftime with the Tritons leading 34-31. However, the visitors came out of break and immediately went on a 13-0 run, extending their lead to 51-38 before the first media timeout of the half. UCSD ended up shooting 49 percent from the floor and 90 percent from the free throw line (27-30) as a team.

The deficit proved to be too much for the Pioneers, who lost despite having one of their most efficient shooting nights of the season. Although they were without Gabe Kindred, the CCAA's leader in three-point percentage, East Bay nonetheless knocked down 11 of their 24 three-point attempts (45.8 percent).

It was a coming-out party for the freshman Cameron, who scored in double figures for the first time and set career highs for minutes, made field goals, points, and assists. The Sacramento native was 5-for-10 from the floor, including 4-for-8 from long distance.

Jarred Jourdan notched 13 points and a team-high three assists, reaching double figures in scoring for the fifth time in the past six games.

Ryan Hebebrand scored 12 points and paced the squad with six rebounds, including three on the offensive end. The senior was 4-for-6 from the field and drilled a pair of three-pointers.

Jacari Whitfield scored seven points, and Mark Samuels posted eight points on 4-for-5 shooting. Kyle Frakes and Donavon Jackson both fouled out after notching four and three points, respectively.

The Pioneers play their final two home games of the season next weekend as they look to snap a seven-game losing streak against Cal State Stanislaus on Friday Feb. 21 and Chico State on Saturday, Feb. 22.
