BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Cal State East Bay men's cross country finished the 2014 season with a 23rd place finish at the NCAA Division II West Regionals on the 10k Amend Park course Saturday morning. Freshman
Adam Gardere paced the Pioneers, finishing 97th out of 152 runners representing 24 schools.
It was the first time all season that East Bay competed in a 10k race, but the team turned in solid times given the unfamiliar conditions.
Gardere ran the course in 33:44.26 to notch an impressive top-100 finish. Senior
Will Weekes crossed the finish line in 35:37.25 to take 138th place in his final collegiate event.
Freshman
Latee Piggee (36:46.08) placed 144th, followed by
Irvin Parada (37:15.77) in 145th. Freshman
Leo Theus III (41:44.49) rounded out the Pioneers' performance with a 151st place finish.
"I think we discovered a really good future runner in Adam," said head coach
Ralph Jones. "He ran a tough, gutsy race and exceuted his plan. He didn't run as well the last two meets, but he saved his best race for last, at a distance he had never run before. The rest of the team seemed to have difficulty adjusting to the change in distance. We're excited for the break as we start to prepare for track season."
