Box Score TURLOCK, Calif. – The 2014 season came to a close for Cal State East Bay women's soccer on Thursday evening following a 2-0 defeat to No. 24 Cal State Stanislaus at Warrior Stadium. East Bay senior goalkeeper
Briana Scholtens made the most of her final collegiate contest with a career-high 10 saves against the Warriors.
The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) leading scorer Jade Poon was at it again netting the eventual game-winner in the 27th minute. Poon put away the rebound following the initial save on a shot from Cal State Stanislaus (13-4-1, 6-4-1 CCAA) teammate Kirsten Coleman.
Coleman would set up both Warrior scores as Tina Benson finished off a cross from close range. Benson became the ninth different Stanislaus player to net a goal this season with her first of the year coming in the 57th minute.
Scholtens was kept busy as she faced nine shots on goal and stopped eight attempts before opposing goalkeeper Chelsea Lewandowski was forced to make a save. The Warriors goalkeeper finished with three saves on the evening after halting second half attempts from
Kelley Brown,
Janelle Herrera, and
Rachel Robbert. Lewandowski earned her sixth solo shutout of the season and improved her record to 9-3-1 on the year.
In two career meetings against nationally ranked Cal State Stanislaus, Scholtens made 19 saves and held one of the most prolific CCAA offenses to two goals in each contest. She was forced to return this season from a severe leg injury following a collision late last year against the Warriors in which she was carted off the field inside Pioneer Stadium.
It was a bittersweet victory for Cal State Stanislaus as the senior class was sent off with a win on "Senior Night." However both Sonoma State and UC San Diego won their respective matches keeping the Warriors on the outside looking in for a trip to the CCAA Postseason tournament.
Cal State East Bay finishes the season 6-10-2, 3-8-0 CCAA, and ninth place in the regular season league standings.
