Final Results
SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State East Bay men's golf team moved up one position to finish 11th out of 18 teams on the final day of the 2014 Otter Invitational, hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at the par-72 Bayonet Golf Coutrse. The Pioneers turned in a team score of 312 (+24) on Tuesday, giving them a three-round total of 935 (+71).
East Bay entered the final round in 12th place, but they shot seven strokes better than Hawaii Hilo to surpass the Vulcans for 11th. Nova Southeastern (+21) took the team championship, followed by British Columbia (+26) in second place and the host Otters (+29) in third. The Pioneers bested California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) rivals Cal State Stanislaus (+76) and UC San Diego (+104) in their penultimate tournament of the Fall.
Senior
A.J. Hebert fired the low round of the day for Cal State East Bay with a 75 (+3), which vaulted him into the top-30 in the overall field of 97 golfers. The left-hander finished at 229 (+13) to lead the Pioneers, tied for 29th place.
Just behind Hebert was sophomore
Adam Stone, who shot 77 (+5) on Tuesday to finish at 230 (+14), tied for 32nd overall.
Junior
Barrett Taylor carded a final-round 82 (+10) for the Pioneers. He turned in a solid performance in his first tournament of the season with a total score of 237 (+21), tied for 58th individually.
Senior
Sam Lavelle shot his lowest round of the week today with a 78 (+6), giving the Lancaster, England native a total of 239 (+23), which was good for 65th place.
Junior
Trevor Spade closed out his first event as a Pioneer with a 91 (+19) to finish at 258 (+42) overall. Freshman
Raja Deal carded 83 (+11) in the final round of his first collegiate tournament, placing 94th at 253 (+37) while competing unattached.
Cal State East Bay will hop on a cross-country flight next week for their final tournament of the Fall. The men's and women's teams will both compete in the Lenoir-Rhyne Rock Barn Collegiate Invitational at Rock Barn Golf Club in Hickory, North Carolina. The course was the site of last year's Women's NCAA Division II Championships and will play host the Men's Division II Championships in May.
