LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's basketball will begin round two of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on the road this weekend. The Pioneers will take on Cal State L.A. on Friday, Jan. 31, and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Feb. 1.

The Pioneers will look to accomplish a feat they have been unable to achieve since joining the CCAA for the 2009-10 season; earn a road win against Cal State L.A. or Cal State Dominguez Hills.

"Every CCAA weekend presents challenges, but road games demand even more focus, team play and passion. We have to be unified," said East Bay Head Coach Suzy Barcomb. "Both opponents are playing very well right now and to be honest, so much has changed since we last played (these two teams) in early December."

Cal State East Bay @ Cal State L.A. – Friday, Jan. 31
Cal State L.A. handed Cal State East Bay its lone home loss of the season after holding the Pioneers to a season-low 47 points. East Bay had its poorest shooting performance on the year from three (0-for-14) and at the free throw line (9-of-17). No other CCAA team has held the East Bay offense under 60 this season.

"Cal State L.A. has great guard play and multiple scoring threats. They are a very athletic squad with outstanding rebounders," said Barcomb of Friday's opponent.

Paige Melville led all players with 19 points despite making only 2-of-9 attempts from downtown in the original meeting. No other Golden Eagle scored more than eight points in that game. She is currently the only L.A. player to average double figure scoring this season at 15.0 per game.

Teammate Destinee La Fountain leads the CCAA averaging 10.6 rebounds per game and is the team's second leading scorer depositing just shy of 10 points per contest. She has grabbed as many as 20 rebounds in a game this season, and has posted 10 games in which she hauled in 10-plus boards. In her most recent contest she was held to season-lows of four points and no rebounds in a loss to UC San Diego.

Cal State East Bay @ Cal State Dominguez Hills – Saturday, Feb. 1
Cal State East Bay opened the CCAA season at home with a 68-55 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills back on Dec. 6, 2013. Brianna Terrance led a group of four Pioneers to score in double digits with 20 points of her own.

The home team has won the previous six meetings with the Pioneers falling in the past three road contests by final scores of 56-55, 58-53, and 54-53. The Toros enter the weekend as winners in four of their past five games and are 4-1 at home this season. CSUDH's lone home defeat was against No. 17 nationally ranked Cal Poly Pomona back on Jan. 18.

"Dominguez Hills is playing solid basketball right now. They have earned big wins over the last few weeks to move up the league standings quickly. They are a very deep team with a lot of athleticism," said Barcomb.

Cal State East Bay currently sits second in the CCAA standings heading into the weekend. Only three games separate the top seven teams, with six qualifying for the conference postseason tournament.

"I have a strong sense that all teams will be playing with greater intensity with so much riding on the line. The second round of CCAA has always been a grind as teams battle to get into position to qualify for the CCAA tournament," said Barcomb.

East Bay senior Brianna Terrance could become the program's all-time leader in field goal makes following the weekend's action. She currently has 361 makes, 10 shy of the all-time mark set by Leah Thornton (2002-05). This season she is averaging 6.5 made field goals per contest.
