PALO ALTO, Calif. – The Pioneer women's cross country team turned in a strong performance at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday morning. A large field that included 15 Division I Schools at the meet, which featured some of the top collegiate teams in the nation. East Bay placed eighth out of 11 non-Division I teams. .
For the second straight race,
Oddessy Tapia was the Pioneers' top finisher. Tapia placed 20th out of non-Division I runners and 72nd overall, posting a 6K time of 23:21. She finished ahead of seven CCAA competitors.
Freshman
Sarah Perrin ran another good race to finish in 23:48, good for 30th place (non-Division I).
Imani Heath was close behind, taking 32nd place in 23:49.
Alexa Torres was the next Pioneer finisher in 41st place. The junior transfer recorded a time of 24:12. Freshman
Camille Hansen posted a time of 25:33 to finish in 57th among Division II, III, and NAIA runners.
Fellow freshman
Michelle LaPonte rounded out Cal State East Bay's day with a time of 25:45, good for 59th place.   Â
"Overall, I felt we ran really well," Pioneer head coach
Ralph Jones said. "It was great to see three of our runners who have never run the 6K place among our top four finishers. Imani ran a much better race than her finish in the Riverside Invitational, and Odyssey turned in a gallant effort. Alexa also competed well in her first race of the season."
The next challenge for the Pioneer women in the Stanislaus Invitational, next Friday in Turlock, Calif.   Â
