Final Results
Riverside, Calif. --- Competing against some of the top teams in Southern California and four CCAA rivals, the Cal State East Bay men's cross country team held their own in the 8K Collegiate Open of the UC Riverside Invitational on September 14. The Pioneers finished in 14th place overall with 340 points.
"Our times didn't totally indicate how competitive we were today," Pioneer coach Ralph Jones said. "I was proud of the way the guys ran together throughout the race."
Senior Daniel Damian, coming off a strong track season, was the Pioneers' top finisher, taking 41st place and 56th overall out of 211 runners. Damian completed the 8K course in 27:29.0. Sophomore Gavin Ramos was right on his heels, finishing in 57th place in 27:59.3.
Shortly behind them was senior Jose Gonzalez-Mejia, who crossed the finish line in 28:24.9 to place 66th in the race. Freshman Irvin Parada was 80th in 29:01.9.
Fellow freshman Kyle Fetter posted a time of 30:07.6 to take 96th place. Justin Pryor and Orlando Ramirez finished 98th and 102nd respectively. Pryor crossed the finish line in 30:23.6, while Ramirez clocked a time of 30:35.1.
The Pioneer men will be competing next at the Stanford Invitational on September 28th.
