Final Results
CHICO, Calif. — One week after winning their home tournament, the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout, the Cal State East Bay women's golf team continued its hot streak with a second-place finish this week at the Interwest Chico State Invite. The Pioneers shot a 313 in the second round at Canyon Oaks Country Club to improve their standing by two spots from Monday. They finished with a team total of 633 (+57), 14 strokes behind first-place Chico State.
Junior
Andrea Castellanos finished in second place in the overall field. She shot consecutive rounds of 75 at the par-72 course to finish at 150 (+6) for the tournament. The Union City native led the field in par-five scoring (E) and total birdies (6), finished second in par-three scoring (-1), and was just two strokes behind the individual champion.
Sophomore
Linda Brown had a good showing, as well, in the two-day event. She fired off a pair of 78's to finish at 156 (+12), which tied her for eighth overall. Fellow sophomore
Arielle Swan-Smith posted a solid second round score, following yesterday's 82 with a 79, giving her a total of 161 (+17). Swan-Smith tied for 17th in the field, giving East Bay three of the top 20 golfers.
Freshman
Melissa Hosman improved her Tuesday score by eight strokes from the first round to finish as the team's fourth qualifying score. She shot an 81 today to finish at 170 (+26), tying her for 32nd overall. Senior
Katie Devine was right behind her, tied for 34th place. She followed yesterday's 85 with an 86, giving her a total of 171 (+27).
East Bay has played its two best tournament of the 2012-13 season here in March, and they'll look to keep it going next week when they travel to Arizona to compete in a tournament hosted by Grand Canyon.
