Box Score HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team (7-19, 6-16 CCAA) lost their final game of the season at home to Cal State Stanislaus (10-16, 7-15 CCAA) by the final score of 75-70. Friday was Senior Night at Pioneer Gym, and East Bay had several players turn in memorable performances despite the defeat.

Vincent Capellino led all scorers and set a career high with 23 points in his final game, obliterating his previous high of 15. Ryan Hebebrand grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds en route to his first double-double as a Pioneer. Jason Smith knocked down three shots from beyond the arc, giving him 127 total for his career, which moves him into second place on the CSUEB all-time list.

East Bay got off to a great start in the first half against the Warriors. Midway through the period, they used a 9-0 run to take an 11-point lead, capped off by Jacari Whitfield's long three-pointer. The Pioneers maintained their advantage the rest of the half, stretching it out to 13 points when Capellino converted a transition layup, giving him 12 points in the opening frame. East Bay out-shot Stanislaus 55 percent to 37 percent from the field and took a 37-28 lead into the break.

The Warriors started the second half hot, pulling within two at the first media timeout. Jurrell Turner, also playing his final game in the red and black, took charge for the Pioneers. He scored a pair of buckets to put them back up by nine points at the midway point of the second half. After Smith nailed a three to make the score 60-49 Pioneers, Stanislaus scored nine straight points to draw back within two.

The game remained tight the rest of the way. With 2:30 remaining, the Pioneers still clung to a five-point lead, but the Warriors made an 8-0 run to pull ahead for the first time since it was 7-6 three minutes in. Once Stanislaus took the lead, they kept it for good, knocking down enough free throws to hang on for the win, spoiling what was a pretty well played game for the Pioneers on Senior Night.

The Warriors flipped the script in the second half, out-shooting East Bay 55 percent to 39 percent. For the game, the Pioneers shot 46.8 percent from the floor and made 6-of-16 three pointers. There was also a huge disparity in fouls and free throws between the two teams in this game. The Warriors were called for 14 fouls and finished 23-for-31 from the free throw line. The Pioneers, meanwhile, were whistled for 23 fouls and attempted just seven free throws (making six of them).

Capellino had the best game of his East Bay career, finishing 11-for-14 from the field to go along with six rebounds and two steals. His 23 points is not only a personal best, it's the highest single-game scoring total for any Pioneer this season (Gabe Kindred twice scored 22). Smith posted nine points and three assists, appropriately scoring all his points in his final game from beyond the arc, where he hit 3-of-4.

Hebebrand totaled 14 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks, going 6-for-11 from the floor. It was a career night for the junior, who notched double-digit rebounds for the first time and finished the season with four straight games scoring in double figures. Turner reached that mark, as well, for the 18th and final time in his career, adding 10 points and three boards.

Whitfield led all players with six assists in the game to go along with three points and three rebounds. Kindred added four points, three rebounds, and two assists, playing limited minutes because of foul trouble. Junior Spencer Britschgi hit 1-of-2 three-pointers and finished with five points off the bench.

Senior Nick Marshall, the Pioneers' leading rebounder, participated in the pre-game festivities, but he was unable to play due to a hand injury.
