HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer women's softball team will host Cal State Monterey Bay in a four-game series this weekend. The four-game series will begin on February 22 with a doubleheader on Pioneer Field beginning at 12:00 p.m. The series will conclude on February 23 with an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS GAME
Saturday, February 23 will be the Pioneer Softball Breast Cancer Awareness Games. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support breast cancer awareness.
PIONEER PREVIEW
The Pioneers are 0-4 in CCAA play and 2-8 for the season. East Bay is currently on a six-game losing streak. The Pioneers dropped a four-game series to Humboldt State last weekend. As a team, the Pioneers are hitting .242.
Taryn Thomas is the Pioneers top hitter after 10 games with a .355 batting average.
Chelsie Kakela is hitting 320 with three doubles and two triples. Kakela has a team-best .600 slugging percentage.
Sara Holdridge, batting .310 for the season, has a team-best six RBI.
Nicole Adair is hitting .273 while
Sara Pacioni has a .269 batting average.
Shaunna Purkey leads the Pioneers with four stolen bases.
Pitcher
Andi Andersen is 1-2, while
Lauren Zweigle has a staff-best 38 strikeouts in 40 innings of work.
“This week we've been working on our hitting, and getting the pitching staff back on track, Pioneer Head Coach
Barbara Pierce said. “We would like to be clicking on all cylinders going into the Monterey Bay series.”
ABOUT CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
Cal State Monterey Bay is 3-1 in the CCAA after taking three out of four games from Cal State Stanislaus last weekend. The Otters are 8-5 overall. Cori Reinhardt, hitting .487 for the season, is the Otters leading hitter. Reinhardt also has a team-high 19 RBI. Skyler Valdivia is hitting .462 with a team-leading eight stolen bases. Pitcher Lindsey Clarkson is 2-0 with a 2.59 ERA. Reinhardt tops the staff with 41 strikeouts.
“Cal State Monterey Bay is the complete package,” Pierce said. “They can pitch, hit and play defense.”
UPCOMING GAMES
Following the four-game series with Cal State Monterey Bay, the Pioneers will take on Sonoma State in a four-game series in Rohnert Park beginning with a March 1 doubleheader.
