SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State East Bay will be on the road Saturday, Dec. 21, to face Cal State Monterey Bay for the second time in seven days. The Pioneers took out the Otters 66-59 inside Pioneer Gymnasium this past Saturday and will look to stretch their win streak over Monterey Bay to three games.

Saturday will be the first conference road contest for the Pioneers this season as they head to Seaside to play at "The Kelp Bed" inside the Otter Sports Center. Last year East Bay Head Coach Suzy Barcomb notched her first win in eight tries against CSUMB following a 45-39 win on Feb. 5, 2013.

"We've been on the road plenty this year and we understand it is a different environment. We just need to focus on ourselves and play team basketball," said Barcomb.

The Cal State East Bay (5-5, 2-1 CCAA) defense has not allowed a league opponent to score 60 points this season. California Collegiate Athletic Association opponents are averaging 55 points against the league's current top-ranked scoring defense.

Cal State Monterey Bay (3-3, 0-3 CCAA) used the 3-point shot to take an early lead and hang around with East Bay this past Saturday. The Otters have connected on the second most 3-pointers (25) in league play and went 7-for-14 during the opening half against the Pioneers.

"We need to defend the perimeter much better than we did last game. We lacked focus and commitment to defending beyond the arc," stated Barcomb. "We can't have any letdowns for extended periods of time."

The Cal State East Bay balanced offensive attack boasts six different players averaging at least eight points per game. The Pioneers have had three different leading scorers over each of its league contests and five through 10 games this season.

However the Pioneers will look to pick up their outside shooting as they currently rank last in the CCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (.125) and free throw percentage (.602). Monterey Bay currently ranks third from downtown (.373) and fourth at the charity stripe (.714) among CCAA squads.
