HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer will hit the road to continue California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play this upcoming weekend. The Pioneers will face off against a pair of CCAA South Division teams in Cal State Los Angeles and Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Cal State East Bay-Cal State L.A. Match Preview
CSU East Bay's offense has found new life over the past three contests. After being held to a single goal through the first seven games of 2013, five different Pioneers have scored over the past three games. Most recently
Andrea Hernandez provided the walk-off winner at home on Sunday against UC San Diego.
On defense CSUEB had surrendered nine goals over the team's first three games of the season. Since then the Pioneers have allowed just six goals in seven games and only once in that stretch did the opposition score multiple times. East Bay goalkeeper
Donna Williams currently ranks second best in the CCAA with 53 saves and a .815 save percentage this season.
CSULA enters the weekend having won back-to-back road matches against Sonoma State and Humboldt State. The Golden Eagles have won three of their last four since junior Yi Du became the team's starting goalkeeper. She leads the CCAA with her .824 save percentage and three goals against, while ranking third allowing opponents to just 0.74 goals per contest.
Teammate Amalia Arvidsson has provided more than half of the team's scoring this season netting seven of CSULA's 13 goals. She ranks second in the CCAA in goals and total points (16). Teammate Andrea Lammers ranks second on the squad with three goals, and Heather Williams has five of the team's 15 assists in 2013.
CSULA is one of five teams in the hunt for the second transfer spot out of the South division into the CCAA Championships. Cal Poly Pomona (11 points) is one spot in front of CSULA and CSUDH, followed by UC San Diego with nine and Chico State with seven.
Cal State East Bay (3-7-0, 3-5-0 CCAA) will look to defeat Cal State L.A. (5-4-1, 3-4-1 CCAA) for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagles won the first five meetings from 2009-11 by multiple goal margins before the Pioneers earned a draw in their 2012 matchup.
Cal State East Bay-Cal State Dominguez Hills
CSU Dominguez Hills (4-5-1, 3-4-1 CCAA) will host top-10 nationally ranked Cal State Stanislaus before the Pioneers taking the pitch at Toro Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 13. The Toros are coming off a mix of emotions this past weekend.
CSUDH defeated Humboldt State in dominating fashion 7-0 on Friday before falling to No. 15 ranked Sonoma State, 3-1. Seven different players scored in the win over the Jacks, none of which were by the team's season leading goal scorer Janelle McGee.
All three of CSUDH victories this season prior to the HSU game had been by 2-1 scores. Outside of the team's seven goal game, the Toros have scored nine goals in the other nine matches.
Goalkeeper Jennifer Ackerly has played all 931-plus minutes in goal for the Toros and ranks fifth in the CCAA with 43 saves.
Cal State East Bay will look to make it three straight wins over Cal State Dominguez Hills in Sunday's meeting. The Pioneers earned 2-1 victories over the Toros in each of their previous two meetings.
