Women's Golf Places 10th at WWU after Strong Tuesday Round

BELLINGHAM, Wash.
--- The Cal State East Bay women's golf team shaved nine strokes off its score from the first day to the second, ultimately placing 10th at the Western Washington Invitational. The Pioneers fired a 325 (+33) to finish the two-day tournament at 659 (+75). 

East Bay passed Northwest Nazarene for 10th thanks to the strong second round at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. The team finished 16 strokes behind CCAA squads Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State and 45 strokes behind the champions, British Columbia University. 

Arielle Swan-Smith matched her first-round score with another 80 (+7) on the par-73 course to finish the tournament at 160 (+14), the lowest individual score for the Pioneers. The junior finished tied for 19th overall. 

Linda Brown carded the low round of the day with a 78 (+5), putting her just a stroke behind Swan-Smith at 161 (+15). Brown ended the day in a tie for 22nd place in the field of 64 golfers. Melissa Hosman followed up yesterday's 83 with an 84 (+11), giving her a total of 167 (+21), good for 41st place.

Ysabel Cabreira showed major improvement in the second round and fired an 83 (+10) to finish up at 173 (+27) in a tie for 51st. Erica Ballard rounded out the Pioneer scoring with an 89 (+16) on Tuesday and a two-day total of 177 (+31). 

The East Bay women now have a week off before competing in the Sonoma State Women's Invitational on Oct. 21-22.
