TURLOCK, Calif. – The Pioneer men's cross country team took fourth place at the Stanislaus Invitational on October 5. Cal State East Bay placed three runners in the top twenty of the 5K race. The host Warriors claimed the team championship on a course that ran through the CSU Stanislaud campus.Â
"Overall, we got some good work in today," head coach
Ralph Jones said after the meet. "Coming off two tough workouts, I was extremely proud of our guys."Â
East Bay was led by senior
Jose Gonzalez-Mejia, who ran an excellent race and finished 12th among attached runners. Gonzalez-Mejia covered the 5K course in 15:58.40. "Jose was able to break the 16-minute barrier for the first time in two years," Jones said. "He was able to establish two personal bests and run a complete race."
Freshman
Irvin Parada crossed the finish line in 16:23.50 to earn 17th place. "I gave Irvin the opportunity to run a complete race, and he showed a good closing kick at the finish line, " Jones added.
Gavin Ramos followed Parada in 19th place with a time of 16:31.30. "I felt that Gavin was able to accomplish his goals in the race," Jones said. "He came out of it feeling good about his performance."
Justin Pryor came in 22nd place (16:54.20),
Orlando Ramirez took 25th (17:39.70), and
Cameron LeBato rounded out the Pioneers' performance in 26th place (18:21.10).
East Bay's next competition will be on October 11th at the San Francisco State Invitational.
