HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer returns to California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action this weekend when it hosts nationally ranked No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus and Humboldt State at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers will look to become the first team this season to hand the unbeaten Warriors a loss in 2013.
"The team is preparing for two more tough games. We were unhappy with our offensive performance and hope to use this past week of training to get ready for Stanislaus and Humboldt," said East Bay Head Coach Amy Gerace. I'm happy that their competition level remains high as well as the goals they have set for themselves."
Cal State East Bay vs. Cal State Stanislaus – (Friday, Oct. 25)
Cal State Stanislaus became the first team to clinch a berth into the CCAA Postseason Tournament following shutout victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State this past weekend. Two wins over its final four matches would secure the CCAA North Division title and the top seed for tournament play.
Karenee Demery is the offensive star for the Warriors holding several national NCAA Division II top-10 rankings. At the end of last weekend, Demery is second in total points (40), third in goals (16) and seventh in assists (8). She is a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American and two-time CCAA Offensive MVP. Her current scoring total of 16 goals is either equal to or greater than six of the other 11 CCAA teams total for the season.
Cal State East Bay vs. Humboldt State – (Sunday, Oct. 27)
The Pioneers will host the top and bottom of the current North Division standings in back-to-back matches as they welcome the Jacks on Sunday. Humboldt State won 3-of-4 to start the 2013 season, but is currently mired in a 10-match winless streak (0-8-2) heading into the weekend.
The Jacks have been outscored 19-3 during that stretch and have scored multiple goals just twice all season. Colette Behen leads HSU in all major categories including goals (3) and assists (2).
Cal State East Bay (3-9-2, 3-7-2 CCAA) defeated Humboldt State 1-0 in their original meeting. Despite playing with 10 players for nearly the entire game, the Pioneers managed to escape with the win after freshman Rachel Robbert scored the golden goal in overtime.
