Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Cal State East Bay and Cal State Los Angeles played to a 1-1 draw in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Friday afternoon.
Megan Ravenscroft scored the game's first goal early in the second half as the Pioneers earned points in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
The Pioneers broke through just more than nine minutes following a scoreless opening frame. Ravenscroft scored her team-leading second goal of the season after receiving the pass from teammate
Shannon Fontes in the 54th minute.
The constant pressure of Cal State L.A. finally paid dividends in the form of an equalizing score from Andrea Lammers in the 64th minute. The team's top three point scorers this season were involved in the goal as Amalia Arvidsson and Heather Williams provided the assists. Williams collected her team-high sixth assist and Arvidsson her 17th point (7G, 3A) on the year.
"We did a good job weathering the storm and getting a point on the road," said East Bay Head Coach
Amy Gerace following Friday's result. "With every game we mature as a team. I like this team's mentality of sticking together under any circumstance."
The storm the Golden Eagles (5-4-2, 3-4-2 CCAA) put the Pioneers through consisted of 27 shots (10 on goal) over 110 minutes of action. CSULA also earned 12 corner kicks to only two for CSUEB. Arvidsson led the home side with eight shots in all and three finding the target.
After the Pioneers scored at the 53:17 mark they were outshot 17-3 overall and 7-1 in shots on goal. Pioneers goalkeeper
Donna Williams made six of her nine saves during that stretch and has recorded eight or more saves in three of the past four contests. Following Friday's conference games she ranks second in the CCAA with 62 stops in 2013.
Cal State East Bay (3-7-1, 3-5-1 CCAA) will be on the road to face Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-6-1, 3-5-1 CCAA) on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 11:30 a.m.
