Daniel Damian and
Jose Gonzalez-Mejia finished 29th and 31st respectively to highlight the Pioneer men's cross country team's performance at Gator Invitational, hosted by San Francisco State on Friday. East Bay took seventh place out of 10 teams with 209 points in an 8k race held at the Golden Gate Parks Speedway Meadow Course. Humboldt State took home the team championship with 48 points.
Damian, who was the Pioneers' top finisher in a race for the third time this season, recorded a season-best time of 27:01.8 to place 29th among collegiate runners and 46th out of 120 overall competitors. Gonzalez-Mejia had a season-best mark of 27:14.3 to finish 31st and 49th overall.
"Daniel and Jose got out well and ran a controlled race," Pioneer head coach
Ralph Jones said. "They worked well together throughout the race and finished strong."
Gavin Ramos and
Irvin Parada finished 46th and 47th, respectively, among collegiate runners. Ramos was clocked at 28:17.3, while Parada turned in a season-best time of 28:22.9. "Irvin got after it and ran a good race today," Jones said. "He's making good progress."
Orlando Ramirez was in 56th place in 30:59.2.
Cameron LeBato rounded out the Pioneers' afternoon, taking 60th place with a time of 32:08.1.
"As a team, we're getting better and stronger," Jones said. "I'm pleased with the improvement of the guys."
The Pioneer men will next compete on October 19 in the Bronco Invitational.
