Pioneers Finish Eighth at Sonoma State Spring Invite

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -
The Cal State East Bay women's golf team finished eighth at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational at Foxtail Golf Club on Tuesday. The Pioneers finished 169 strokes ahead of Dominican and were led by Deanna Tyndall and Linda Brown's 29th-place finish. 

Both Brown and Tyndall finished with a two-round total of 163 (+19), tying with two other golfers for 29th in the field of 52 individuals. Brown took five strokes off her first round score on Tuesday, carding a seven-over 79 in the final round, while Tyndall posted a team-low six-over 78 in the first round. The 29th-place finish marked the sixth consecutive tournament that either Brown or Tyndall have led the Pioneers. 

Andrea Castellanos finished just two strokes back of Brown and Tyndall, carding a 165 (+21) to tie for 35th overall. Castellanos matched Tyndall's 78 (+6) in the first round to share the team low score. Katie Devine finished 41st with a two-round score of 170, while Arielle Swan-Smith rounded out the East Bay contingent with a 175 to place 44th. 

Grand Canyon claimed the team title, finishing with a team total of 624 (+48) to beat out host Sonoma State by one stroke. Just four strokes separated the top five teams in the tournament. Central Oklahoma's Chaney Uhles took individual medalist honors, posting a five-over 149 to top runner up Spencer Heller from Sonoma State by two strokes. 

Cal State East Bay will close out the regular season next week at the Otter Invitational in Seaside. The Pioneers are set to tee off for the first of two rounds at the Black Horse Golf Club on April 16.
