VALLEJO, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team put together two solid rounds to finish fourth at the Pioneer Shootout, which it hosted at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club this weekend. The Pioneers posted a pair of 321 rounds to finish six strokes back of third-place Chico State and 15 strokes behind winner Academy of Art.
Andrea Castellanos and
Linda Brown led East Bay, each posting a 158 (+14) to tie for seventh place overall. Brown paced the Pioneers in the final round, posting a team-low five-over 77, including an even 37 on the front nine. The freshman also took four strokes off her round one score on Sunday. Castellanos was the team leader in the first round, carding a 78 (+6) to open the tournament.
Katie Devine posted a 79 on the final day, including a two-over 37 on the back nine, to finish in a tie for 11th-place with a two-round score of 159 (+15).
Deanna Tyndall followed with a 167 to tie for 19th in the field of 34, while Ariell Swan-Smith rounded out the East Bay contingent with a 169 to finish 21st overall.
Academy of Art took the team title, led by individual winner Lyra Yoe, who carded a tournament-low two-under 70 on the first day before finishing with a 77 (+5) to claim the title with a 147 (+3). The Urban Knights finished four strokes ahead of Cal State Monterey Bay with a 627 (+51) overall. The Otters' Courtney Soekland took second, carding a one-under 71 in the final round to post a two-day total of 148, finishing just one stroke off of Yoe. George Fox's Kelsey Morrison was the third-place finisher, carding a 152 (+8) after taking four strokes off her first round total on Tuesday.
Chico State took third in the team competition, finishing five strokes back of CSUMB with a 636. George Fox posted a tournament total of 663 to finish nine strokes out of fourth and Dominican rounded out the teams with an 825 to finish sixth.
Kelsey Dominguez from Cal State Monterey Bay led the individual competitors, carding a 161 (+17) to finish 13th overall, while the Pioneers'
Kelsey Alcala was second among the individuals, placing 24th with a 173 after taking nine strokes off her first round 91 on Tuesday.
