ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Pioneers dropped to 5-10 in CCAA play and 7-12 overall following a 96-63 defeat to Sonoma State on February 4.
Sonoma State extends its winning streak to five games and improves to 10-6 in the CCAA and 12-8 for the season.
The Pioneers, who shot only 26.7 percent from the field, was led by
Mark Samuels with 17 points.
Tre Mauldin came off the bench to score 13 points while
Roshun Wynne added 11.
The Seawolves had four players score in double figures. Jason Walter came off the bench to score a game-high 24 points. Justin Herold and Will Olsem added 18 and 17 points respectively. Patrick Scott contributed to the Seawolves' win with 11 points.
After taking a 41-23 halftime lead, the Seawolves extended their advantage to 59-31, with 12:01 left in the game.
Olsem nailed a three-pointer at the 5:52 mark, as the Seawolves had their biggest lead of game, 77-41.
The Pioneers scored 22 points in the final five minutes.
East Bay missed 11 of its first 12 shots to trail 10-4 in the early going.
Sonoma State held East Bay to six points and extended its lead to 25-10, with 7:10 left.
A pair of three-pointers by Jason Walter gave the Seawolves their biggest lead of the half, 41-21, with less than three minutes in the half.
Samuels and Wynne accounted for 13 of the Pioneers 23 points in the first 20 minutes.
The Pioneers return home on February 10 to take on San Francisco State in the “Battle of the Bay”. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
