HAYWARD -
The Pioneer women's soccer team will play two early CCAA games this week. On October 11, the Pioneers will travel to Rohnert Park to take on Sonoma State. The game is set for 3:00 p.m. East Bay will return home on October 13 to face Humboldt State. The game will begin at 4:30 p.m.

“At this point in the season, we are making minor adjustments, so I feel that two days to prepare to play Sonoma will be sufficient,” Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said.  “Our team is so consistent emotionally. “I don't think a shorter week will have any effect on them.”

The Pioneers stand in fifth place in the CCAA North at 2-6-1 and 4-6-1 following a pair of narrow defeats to Chico State 2-1 and Cal State Stanislaus 1-0 over the weekend. East Bay continues to outscore the opposition by a 17-14 margin.

Shianna Falk leads the Pioneers in scoring with 13 points on five goals and three assists. Falk is sixth in the CCAA in scoring with four goals and one assist for nine points. Kara Yamamoto is second in scoring for the Pioneers with two goals and five assists. Eugenie Foote has scored three goals in 11 games.
Pioneer goalkeeper Jamie Botteon has allowed 1.80 goals a game and is fourth in the CCAA with 34 saves. The Pioneer backline, led by Zuly Diaz, have given up nine goals in their last eight games.

Sonoma State leads the CCAA North Division with a 7-1-1 record. The Seawolves are 10-1-1 for the season. Sonoma State, ranked 12th nationally, has outscored the opposition by a 28-8 margin.
Cara Curtin leads a potent Sonoma State offense with 10 goals scored overall. Curtin is tied for top honors in the CCAA with seven goals scored. Sara Studer has scored four goals in 12 games for the Seawolves. Goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua has allowed 0.65 goals a game and recorded six shutouts in CCAA play. Sonoma State defeated the Pioneers 3-1 on September 9.

Humboldt State, not eligible for CCAA post-season play, is 1-7 for the season. The Jacks lone victory came over Chico State 2-1 in overtime. Humboldt State is led in scoring by Maddi Null with three goals. Null is followed in scoring by Colette Behen with two goals.

“I expect us to be competitive in both matches, just like we've been all year long,” Gerace said. “This week we will approach our training sessions a bit differently, so we come in to both matches able to play with a lot of energy and keep our competitive edge.”
