ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -
The Pioneer women's soccer team played on even terms with Sonoma State in the first half of their CCAA match. Cal State East Bay allowed two second half goals in a 2-0 defeat to Sonoma State on Friday afternoon.

“I was disappointed in our overall team performance,” Pioneer coach Amy Gerace said. “We didn't do a good job possessing the ball and definitely didn't play our style of soccer.” Sonoma State came out to play and played hard.”

Cal State East Bay got off the first two shots of the match. Ariana Nobrega's shot was saved by Seawolves goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua in the 2nd minute. Nine minutes later, a shot by Claudia Luna went wide.

Sonoma State had a great opportunity to score the first goal of the match, but a shot by Ashley Martin hit the post.

A shot by the Pioneers' Eugenie Foote was turned away by Sciacqua in the 24th minute.

The final scoring chance of the first half came in the 43rd minute as a shot by the Seawolves' Taylor Edwards went over the net.

East Bay's first scoring opportunity in the second half came in the 58th minute as a shot by Brianna Baker was saved by Sciacqua.

“Brea Baker played another great game,” Gerace said. “I'm very proud of her effort.”

Kiley Brown scored an insurance goal in the 74th minute to give the Seawolves their first win of the season and in CCAA play.

Foote had a shot blocked in the 75th minute in the Pioneers final scoring chance of the match.

The Pioneers were out-shot 12-5. Goalkeeper Nina Cefalo recorded two saves for Cal State East Bay.

With a 1-2 CCAA mark and an overall record of 2-3, the Pioneers will play at Humboldt State on September 18.
