SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -
Junior Heidi McAllister's pinch hit grandslam in extra innings in game two of Saturday's doubleheader with Cal State San Bernardino to give Cal State East Bay a 5-1 win and the series split. The Pioneers (23-24, 13-19 CCAA) dropped an 8-0 decision in five innings in game one before Talia Ferrari and Kelly Lowe combined to allow just one run and hold off the Coyotes until McAllister hit East Bay's fourth grandslam of the season.

The extra-inning victory in game two saw Ferrari allow just one run for the second straight day after tossing a four-hitter in a win on Friday. The junior right-hander allowed just one unearned run on six hits in 6.1 innings of work, while striking out three, but got the no-decision after the game headed to extras locked in a 1-1 tie.

Lowe entered to finish off the Coyotes in the seventh inning and held them scoreless in two and two-thirds innings of work to pick up the win after McAllister's grand slam in the ninth. The redshirt freshman allowed just two hits and struck out four in her ninth victory of the season.

Cal State San Bernardino scored its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth. An error, a single and a wild pitch brought the run home and gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead. The Pioneers answered back, however, in the top of the fifth as Jamie Yaller hit a one-out solo homerun to left to tie things up at one.

After remaining tied 1-1 through the eighth, East Bay got things going in the top of the ninth. Taylor Neumann led off with a single before Sara Holdridge reached on a fielder's choice to put two on with no outs for Yaller, who singled to load the bases and force CSUSB reliever Carly Land from the game in favor of Brianne Godfredson. With no outs, Godfredson got one out before facing McAllister as a pinch hitter. The junior blasted a pitch over the fence in center field for her first homerun and the Pioneers' fourth grandslam of the season to put East Bay up 5-1. After allowing a pair of hits, Lowe closed out the ninth to give the Pioneers the Saturday split and a pair of wins in the four-game series.

McAllister finished a perfect 1-for-1 with a run and four RBI, while Yaller went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Pioneers in game two.

Game one was a different story for Cal State East Bay, which was held scoreless and posted just three hits against Coyote starter Cassidy Lee, who notched her 12th win of the season. Though the game was scoreless through the first two innings, Cal State San Bernardino started the scoring in the bottom of the third and never looked back.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the third, Lee took over, holding the Pioneers without a hit over the final two innings of work. A six-run fifth inning gave the Coyotes all the runs they needed to post the 8-0 victory in five innings. Lee finished the five-inning complete game having allowed just three hits and striking out striking out two in the win. Ferrari took the loss in game one, allowing two earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings of work.

Cal State East Bay is back in action next weekend when it returns home for its final series of the 2011 campaign. The Pioneers will play host to UC San Diego on April 22 and 23 at Pioneer Softball Field, with East Bay's four seniors set to be honored before Saturday's doubleheader.
