Pioneers Conclude Season with 17-Point Setback to Cal Poly Pomona

POMONA, Calif. -
The Pioneer men's basketball team concluded the 2010-11 season on February 25 by losing to Cal Poly Pomona 88-71 in a game delayed by a malfunctioning fire alarm.

East Bay finished 12th in CCAA play with a record of 2-20 and 4-22 for the season.

Cal Poly Pomona, the 2010 NCAA Division II National Champion, grabbed fifth place in the CCAA at 13-9. The Broncos finished 16-10 overall. Cal Poly Pomona will play at San Francisco State in the first round of the CCAA Basketball Playoffs on March 1.

The Pioneers took a 20-16 advantage on a Roshun Wynne jumper with 8:05 remaining in the first half. A pair of three-pointers by Will Freedman gave the Pioneers their biggest lead of the first half, 26-20, at the 5:35 mark.

Cal Poly Pomona scored five unanswered points to narrow the Pioneers' lead to 26-25. The Broncos took their first lead of the half with 1:09 remaining on Matt Rosser's layup. Cal Poly Pomona scored two more points in the final minute to take a 32-29 halftime lead.

A three-pointer by Wynne tied the game 32-32 early in the second half. The Pioneers took their final lead of the game 40-38 on a Wynne basket with 16:08 remaining.

Cal Poly Pomona went on a 14-4 run to take a 52-44 advantage at the 10:38 mark.

The Pioneers cut the lead to 53-52 with 8:23 left and only trailed by six points with 6:25 remaining.

The Broncos scored 27 points in the final six minutes to seal the victory.
Wynne poured in a season-high 25 points for the Pioneers. Will Freedman followed with 19 points including five 3-pointers. Mark Samuels, the Pioneers' leading scorer this season with a 14.3 point per game average, had 13 points.

Cal Poly Pomona had five players score in double figures. Michael Anderson led the way with 20 points while Tobias Jahn and Kevin Menner scored 14 each.
