SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team held a three-point lead at halftime, but were outscored 42-21 in the second half and lost to Cal State San Bernardino 78-60 on February 24.
With the defeat, East Bay stands at 2-19 in CCAA play and 4-21 overall.
Cal State San Bernardino, which completed a two-game conference sweep over Cal State East Bay, improved its CCAA record to 14-7 and 16-9 for the season.
East Bay got off to a fast start scoring the first seven points at the 17:30 mark of the first half.
The Coyotes went on a 20-6 run to lead 20-13 with 12:08 left in the first half. A three-pointer by
Jacob Straley gave the Pioneers a 22-20 advantage at the 10:18 mark. Led by Robbie Robinson's eight points, the Coyotes took their biggest margin of the first half 36-29 with 3:31 remaining.
East Bay rallied to take a 37-36 lead on a
Roshun Wynne basket with 40 seconds left. Wynne led the Pioneers in the first half with 10 points. A pair of free throws by
Adam Watts enabled the Pioneers to take a 39-36 advantage at halftime.
A three-pointer by
Rodrigue Maza gave the Pioneers a 42-38 lead with 18:20 remaining in the contest.
The Coyotes controlled the game with 26-7 run to take a 64-49 at the 7:58 mark. Cal State San Bernardino led by as many as 23 points with 2:27 left.
Wynne and
Mark Samuels scored 12 points each for the Pioneers.
Will Freedman followed with 10.
The Coyotes' Aaron Hill led all scorers with 16 points. Hill was followed by Kwame Alexander and Robinson with 15 and 14 points respectively.
The Pioneers will conclude the 2010-11 campaign on February 25 with a road contest at Cal Poly Pomona. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
