Pioneers Cap Fall Campaign at Cal Poly Invite

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. -
The Cal State East Bay women's golf team closed out the fall season with a 12th-place showing at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational on Tuesday. Competing against several Division I opponents, the Pioneers finished nine strokes out of the top 10, tallying a final score of 680 (+96).

Sophomore Deanna Tyndall led the Pioneers for the second time this season, finishing in a tie for 24th. Tyndall carded a total of 163 (+17) on the par-73 course, notching a team-low of 78 (+5) in the first round. The Ontario, Canada, native was the only East Bay player to post a sub-80 round on the course at Cypress Ridge Golf Club. 

Freshman Linda Brown was just two strokes behind Tyndall, notching a two-round total of 165 (+19) to tie for 26th in the field of more than 65 individuals. Katie Devine tied for 55th with her 172 (+26), while Arielle Swan-Smith rounded out the Pioneer contingent with a 180 (+34). Swan-Smith took six strokes off her first round score on the final day to tie for 64th overall. Sophomore Andrea Castellanos was the fifth East Bay player, but withdrew from the tournament. 

Cal State East Bay finished just one stroke back of 11th-place Point Loma Nazarene. Three Division I programs finished in the top three, with Santa Clara taking home the team title. The Broncos finished with a team total of 628 (+44) to outdo second-place Cal State Northridge by eight strokes. The host Mustangs finished just two strokes back of the Matadors to tie with Grand Canyon for third. Balbina Guajardo carded a 150 (+4) to take home the individual title for the Broncos, finishing the tournament with an even 73 on Tuesday.

The Pioneers now take a break from competition for the winter. East Bay will return to action in February, opening the spring season at the Lady Cougar Spring Invitational, hosted by Cal State San Marcos at Lake San Marcos Country Club on Feb. 26.
