TURLOCK, Calif. - The Pioneer men's basketball team remained winless in CCAA play at 0-7 following a 77-49 defeat to Cal State Stanislaus on Jan. 7. East Bay is 2-9 for the season.
In the first half, the Warriors took a 16-10 lead on a pair of 3-pointers by Dan Daviess. East Bay's
Brandon Hrboka converted a 3-point basket and a jumper to narrow the Warriors advantage to 16-15 with 3:15 remaining. The Pioneers took their first lead 22-21 with 1:47 left on two free throws by
Mark Samuels. Stanislaus State went on a 7-2 run to take a 28-24 lead at halftime.
The Warriors broke the game wide open in the second half outscoring the Pioneers 24-2 to lead 52-26 with 11:55 remaining. Cal State Stanislaus led by as many as 31 points at the 3:52 mark.
Will Freedman was the Pioneers' leading scorer with 13 points. Samuels followed with 12.
Cal State Stanislaus, which improved to 2-5 in the CCAA and 4-7 overall, shot 53.2 percent from the field and converted 9 of 16 three-pointers. Reggie Jones scored a game high 20 points. Daviess tallied 14 points in the Warriors' victory.
The Pioneers will play at Chico State on Jan. 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
