TURLOCK, Calif. - The Pioneer women's cross country team took third and the men took fourth at the Cal State Stanislaus Invitational on Saturday. Three Pioneer women finished in the top 10, led by sophomore Megan McDaniel's fourth-place showing.

"The women had a solid effort," Pioneer Head Coach Greg Ryan said. "Our times were faster and we had three runners place in the top 10. We came closer to Cal State Stanislaus and San Francisco State compared to last year."

The fourth-place finish was McDaniel's second straight. The Brownsburg, Calif., native covered the 6k course in 23:18, while Amanda McNabb took sixth with a time of 23:43. Tiffany Duffy was also among the three top-10 finishers, taking eighth place in a time of 23:48.

Nancy Velazquez finished 18th in 24:55 while Clarivel Vega was 21st with a time of 25:18. Gabriella Cruz and Nastassia Hamor rounded out the Pioneer runners, taking 23rd and 24th, respectively.

Erik Rodriguez led the men with a 17th-place finish, competing the 8k course in 28:42. Francisco Pulido followed in 19th with a time of 29:05.

"I was pleased with the men's performance," Ryan said. "Everyone improved from last year. Erick Rodriguez, Francisco Pulido, and Scott Pallesen ran well for us."

Scott Pallesen finished 22nd in 29:36, while John Erlandson placed 27th with a time of 31:22.

Chris Gallagher (35:18) and John Vergara (35:20) rounded out the Pioneer field with 30th- and 31st-place finishes, respectively.

The Pioneers will take a two-week break from competition before heading to Santa Barbara on Sept. 25 for the Westmont Invitational.
