Andrew Ayers enters his first season an assistant coach at Cal State East Bay in 2016-17. He spent the previous season as Director of Baseball Operations at Sacramento State.

Prior to that, Ayers was the recruiting coordinator for the Yavapai College baseball team during the 2015 season and many of his recruits led Yavapai to the 2016 NJCC World Series title. He has also served as an assistant coach for the Humboldt Crabs in the summers of 2014 and 2015.

A four-year starter for Sacramento State, Ayers was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 30th round of the 2013 MLB Draft and played one season of professional baseball. He appeared in 44 games for the Burlington Royals, totaling one home run, 11 RBI, and 17 runs scored in the Rookie Appalachian League.

Ayers left Sac State as the program's all-time leader in career at-bats and ranked second in career hits and runs. He was named WAC Player of the Year as a junior in 2012 and was an ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region selection, becoming the first player in program history to earn both honors. That season he batted .336 with 36 runs, three home runs, and 31 RBI overall. He posted a .427 average in WAC play and led the league with 32 hits, 18 RBI, and a .627 slugging percentage in conference games.

Ayers also earned All-WAC second team honors and was an All-WAC Tournament selection as a senior in 2013 as he led the team with 47 RBI and 41 runs and tied for the team lead with 10 home runs, primarily as a second baseman.

A 2009 graduate of St. Bernard's High School in Eureka, Claif., Ayers earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics at Sacramento State.  Â
