Van Dyke notched a hat trick in the opening contest of the season, for the Pioneers, which included a game-winning goal in the final seconds of overtime. She scored a team-high three goals in a tight, back-and-forth game at Fresno Pacific, which went to extra time when the teams were tied 9-9 after regulation. The Sunbirds went up 11-9 in overtime before two straight goals by Brittany Smith tied the score again. Van Dyke then converted a power play on the final possession, scoring with 17 seconds left to seal the dramatic win.
