Jose-Luis Rayas became the an assistant volleyball coach beginning with the 2022 season. He returns to Cal State Bay after previously serving in the athletic department's administration for several years, most recently as Facility and Events Coordinator.
Rayas also served the department in multiple capacities during his previous tenure, including assisting with business operations, establishing the annual 5K at East Bay, organizing Hall of Fame and Student-Athlete Awards ceremonies, assisting with marketing and graphic design, and serving as SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) advisor.
Before coming to Cal State East Bay, Rayas worked as a consultant for a Kaiser Permanente H.E.A.L. (Healthy Eating, Active Living) grant at Harder Elementary and as a physical education teacher at North Davis Elementary School.
Jose-Luis is a 2010 graduate of UC Davis, earning a bachelor's degree in Exercise Biology with a minor in English. He earned his master's degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Management from Cal State East Bay in 2013.
As an undergraduate, Rayas rowed for the Cal Aggie Oarsmen crew team and was an alternate for the 2008 boat that won the American Collegiate Rowing Association national championship.
A native of Hayward, Rayas is an alumnus of Mt. Eden High School, where he competed in cross country for four years, track and field for two years, and tennis for two years.
