Gabe Kindred enters his second stint at Cal State East Bay as an assistant for the men’s basketball team in 2016-2017. He competed for the Pioneers from 2012-14 and subsequently served as an assistant coach during the 2014-15 season under Gus Argenal.
Kindred spent the 2015-16 season under head coach Eric Musselman at the University of Nevada as a Graduate Assistant.The first-year staff guided the Wolf Pack to a 24-14 overall record, including a 10-8 mark in the conference for fourth in the Mountain West regular-season standings. More importantly, Nevada accepted a bid to the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) and won the tournament for the Mountain West Conference’s first postseason title in men's basketball. He had a variety of responsibilities which included opponent scouting, film editing and exchange, academic monitoring, game and practice planning, and running camps.
During his playing career, Kindred played a season at Loyola University Chicago and Salt Lake Community College before transferring to East Bay for two seasons from 2012-2014. The Oakland native scored 728 career points for the Pioneers. He holds program records for free throws made in a season (154) and in a single game (16-for-16). He also finished his career ranked seventh in school history with a free throw percentage of .751. He went on to graduate from Cal State East Bay with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2015.
Kindred played prep career at Fremont High School in Oakland, where he earned All-League and All-City honors. He also spent two years at Worcester Academy in Worcester, Mass. where he earned All-region Honors.
