The dominance of Cal State East Bay's Marissa Quintero continues as she has picked up her third FloCollege/CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week award of the season.
In a marquee match-up against Cal State Monterey Bay this past weekend, Quintero went 2-1 with a save to lead the Pioneers to a three-games-to-one series win over the Otters. Quintero recorded two complete games and threw 17 2/3 innings while yielding just three runs for a 1.19 ERA. She allowed 11 hits, struck out nine and walked four while limiting CSUMB hitters to a .180 batting average.
The junior from Whittier, Calif., pitched a five-hit, one-run complete game to start the series on Friday in Seaside as CSUEB won 6-1. Quintero got out of a couple of jams to preserve the tight game in the outing. In Saturday's first game, she earned a save in a 5-4 game by tossing two hitless innings before pitching another gem in the finale (7 innings, 1 run on four hits, four strikeouts) to improve her personal record to 17-1.
Quintero now leads Division II with 17 wins and is third in ERA (0.72). She leads the conference in opponents batting average (.147), innings (106.2), and strikeouts (90).
