Pioneers' 6-0 Win Leads to Tournament Title

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. — No. 17 Cal State East Bay closed out a perfect weekend Sunday at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park, defeating Colorado Mesa 6-0 on the final day of the 2026 D2 West Coast Challenge. Behind dominant pitching and a decisive offensive stretch in the middle innings, the Pioneers completed a five-game sweep to claim the tournament championship and improved to 9-1 overall.

Marissa Quintero was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher after allowing no earned runs in 17.0 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts over the weekend. She has now gone 28.0 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run and owns a 0.22 earned run average, the best in the CCAA. Rylee Gomez and Jasmyn Morales were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

After three scoreless innings, East Bay broke through in the top of the fourth by combining aggressive baserunning with timely singles. Jennavee Campos led off with a single, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She scored when Jeslyn Cuellar reached on an error, giving the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. With Cuellar aboard, Jenna Porto reached on an error, allowing Cuellar to move to third base. Porto then stole second, setting up Gomez, who delivered an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0. Two batters later, Cynthia Carrillo singled home Porto, and Isabel Mercado followed with another RBI single to score Gomez and make it 4-0.

East Bay added two more runs in the top of the fifth. Campos and Cuellar again reached scoring position, and Porto delivered an RBI single to drive in a run. Gomez followed with an RBI groundout, bringing the Pioneers' lead to 6-0.

Marissa Quintero controlled the game in the circle, continuing her dominant tournament performance before handing the ball off late. Jaidyn Gamble entered over the final two innings and retired all six batters she faced to close out the shutout, securing the championship for East Bay.

Gomez led the offense by going 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while Campos finished 3-for-3. Carrillo, Porto and Cuellar each recorded two hits as the Pioneers consistently pressured Colorado Mesa's defense.

Cal State East Bay returns to action Thursday, Feb. 12, opening the Stan State Invitational in Turlock, California. The Pioneers will face Dominican (Calif.) in the opener, with first pitch scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Warrior Softball Field.
