LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. — No. 17 Cal State East Bay kept rolling Saturday at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park, sweeping Biola and Western New Mexico on the second day of the 2026 D2 West Coast Challenge. The Pioneers shut out Biola 6-0 in the opener and held off a late push to defeat Western New Mexico 7-5 in the nightcap, extending their winning streak to seven and improving to 8-1 overall. Game One - No. 17 Cal State East Bay 6, Biola 0
In the first game, East Bay and Biola traded zeros through the first five innings before the Pioneers broke through in the top of the sixth. With Sarissa Block and Jenna Porto reaching scoring position, Rylee Gomez punched a single up the middle to plate Block for a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Jasmyn Morales lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home Porto and make it 2-0. After a Biola pitching change, Cynthia Carrillo reached on an error, allowing Gomez to score for a three-run cushion.
East Bay doubled its lead in the top of the seventh with a string of quality at-bats. Marissa Farias and Jennavee Campos opened the frame with back-to-back singles, and Block executed a sacrifice bunt to move both into scoring position. Jeslyn Cuellar and Porto followed with RBI singles for a 5-0 advantage. Two batters later, Morales hit into a fielder's choice with two outs, but all runners were safe and Cuellar crossed the plate to make it 6-0.
That was more than enough for Marissa Quintero, who closed out a complete game shutout in the bottom of the seventh. The Eagles managed a hit in the inning, but Quintero stranded it to finish off the win.
Quintero struck out six and allowed six hits, moving to 5-0 with a 0.26 earned run average while running her streak of 23.0 consecutive innings without an earned run allowed.

In the second game, Western New Mexico went in front early when Abbi Markus homered to lead off the top of the first.
The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the second. Morales singled to start the frame, and two batters later Isabel Mercado doubled to put two in scoring position. East Bay flipped the score when a double down the left-field line drove in both runners for a 2-1 lead.
The Pioneers added on in the bottom of the third. With the bases loaded, Carrillo grounded out, but the contact brought home Mercado for a 3-1 advantage. The Mustangs trimmed the deficit in the top of the fourth on a solo home run from Lauryn Carbajal, but East Bay rebuilt the margin in the bottom of the fifth. After back-to-back errors opened the inning, Carrillo hit a double to right-center to score Brynn Gentry and Gomez, stretching the lead to 5-2.
Insurance proved pivotal in the bottom of the sixth. Cuellar sent a sacrifice fly to the outfield for an RBI, and Morales followed with a run-scoring single to make it 7-2 heading to the seventh. Western New Mexico mounted one final push in the top of the seventh. Antonya Lucero led off with a double, and Hannah Martinez followed with an RBI single. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt put two in scoring position, East Bay turned to Jaidyn Gamble out of the bullpen. Ciara Spencer punched a single through the infield to drive in two, cutting the lead to 7-5 and bringing the tying run to the plate. Gamble steadied the moment with a strikeout, then induced a popup to second base to end the threat and seal the sweep.
Ally Fuentes earned her first win as a Pioneer with 6.1 innings in the circle, and Gamble notched the save. Nine of the 10 Pioneers who stepped to the plate recorded at least one hit in the nightcap, with Farias and Morales tallying two apiece.
Farias finished with three hits across both games. Gomez has a hit in four straight and in eight of nine games this season, while Cuellar continues to pace the lineup with a .406 batting average and 13 hits on the year.
Cal State East Bay concludes the D2 West Coast Challenge on Sunday, February 8, facing Colorado Mesa at 10 a.m. at Rosetta Canyon Sports Park in Lake Elsinore.
