East Bay Drops CCAA Contest to Stanislaus State

ALAMEDA, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Stanislaus State on Sunday at the Oakland Roots Practice Facility. The result moved the Pioneers to 2-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in CCAA play.

East Bay generated the early pressure, recording five shots and three corner kicks during the opening half. Kella Folkerts put the Pioneers' first attempt on goal in the seventh minute, while Kaylie McKee later forced another save in the 31st minute.

Stanislaus State broke through in the 28th minute when Alexi Ochoa scored off assists from Olivia Maragos and Mandy Thao, giving the Warriors a 1-0 advantage that they carried into halftime.

The Pioneers continued to search for an equalizer after the break. Lily Larez put an attempt on goal in the 54th minute, while East Bay generated a pair of corner kicks early in the second half.

Stanislaus State increased its pressure as the half progressed, but Yvette Torres helped keep East Bay within one. The Pioneers remained within striking distance until the Warriors added an insurance goal in the 78th minute, when Karissa Franco scored off an assist from Thao to extend the lead to 2-0.

East Bay continued to push forward over the closing minutes, generating two more corner kicks and attempts from Taylor Hodges, Jenna McDonnell and Vivianna Bravo, but the Pioneers were unable to break through.

McDonnell led East Bay with three shots, while Hodges and McKee recorded two apiece. Folkerts, Larez and McKee each placed one attempt on goal as the Pioneers finished with 11 shots and three on target.

Torres played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with four saves. East Bay and Stanislaus State each recorded seven corner kicks, while the Pioneers finished with 11 shots compared with 13 for the Warriors.

After entering halftime down one, East Bay remained within striking distance for much of the second half before Stanislaus State added its second goal late to secure the 2-0 decision.
