Pioneer Spotlight: Delia Moore

1/12/2026 12:00:00 PM

Delia Moore's time at Cal State East Bay was nothing short of extraordinary. A five-year member of the women's basketball team, Moore became a cornerstone of the program and one of the most decorated scholar-athletes in the CCAA.

Moore joined the Pioneers in 2018 and grew into a trusted leader on the court. By her senior season, she was starting every game, averaging 12.1 points, and earning All-CCAA Second Team honors. One of her most memorable moments came in February 2023, when she scored a career-high 28 points and hit the game-winning layup with 1.5 seconds left against Cal State San Bernardino.

Her proudest team memory? The 2021–22 season, when the Pioneers bounced back from a canceled year to win the CCAA Championship and host the NCAA West Regionals. "That season was particularly rewarding, not only because of our success and wins, but also because of our perseverance, and personally, the privilege of getting to witness so many of my teammates rise to the occasion, and be a part of that journey with them." Moore says.

Off the court, Moore excelled academically, earning multiple CCAA and national honors while completing a double major in kinesiology and psychology. Her passion for learning extended beyond the classroom through her work with East Bay's Center for Student Research (CSR).

Mentored by faculty advisor Dr. Albert Mendoza, Moore contributed to projects examining physical activity in daily living using wearable technology and its role in meeting CDC exercise guidelines. She also collaborated with the Speech, Language, and Pathology department on a groundbreaking study exploring the benefits of exercise for individuals with aphasia, a language disorder often caused by stroke.

When the pandemic hit, Moore helped transition these sessions online to meet overwhelming demand. Remarkably, the team found that even virtual exercise improved quality of life, emotional wellbeing, and cognitive function for participants. "It was incredible to see the positive impact," Moore reflects. "It was such an incredible collaboration to be a part of, and I learned so much about aphasia, got to personally know many members of the ATP at East Bay, and really began to understand the beauty of communicating beyond just language."

Today, Moore is continuing her basketball journey overseas, playing professionally in Germany's second division. She also has her sights set on becoming a strength and conditioning coach and is working toward her CSCS certification. "College goes by fast," she advises current Pioneers. "Enjoy the process, build relationships, and don't be afraid to explore passions outside your sport."

From the hardwood in Hayward to arenas in Europe, Moore's story is a testament to what it means to be a Pioneer. Resilient, driven, and ready for what's next.
