No. 10 Pioneers Continue Streak With Home Court Rout on Saturday, 95-53 Over Cal Poly Humboldt

HAYWARD, Calif. — No. 10 Cal State East Bay lit up Pioneer Gymnasium on Saturday evening, racing past Cal Poly Humboldt 95-53 to extend the longest winning streak in program history to 14 games.

A blistering first half and a barrage from beyond the arc set the tone, punctuated by Payden White's transition 3-pointer at 10:07 of the first half that pushed the margin to 23-5 and capped an early 10-0 burst.

The Pioneers landed the first punch with defense-into-offense. Jaayden Bush jumped a passing lane for a steal and layup to get East Bay on the board, and moments later Jalen Foy canned a fast-break 3-pointer off another stop. Terence Haywood slashed for a pair of finishes, and Matt Williams turned two steals into breakaway buckets as the lead swelled. When White drilled that wing 3-pointer in transition, as the rout was on.

East Bay's depth took over the rest of the first half. Twelve Pioneers saw the floor and 10 scored before the break, with eight 3-pointers splashing through as the home side shot 60.6 percent to build a 56-25 cushion. White went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes, and Bush carved up the lane for multiple layups as the lead ballooned. Tyree Campbell beat the horn with a tip-in to send the Pioneers to the locker room up 31.

The second half brought more separation. At 15:35, Campbell, trailing the play, buried a second-chance 3-pointer that ignited a 20-4 avalanche fueled by five 3-pointers—Williams from the right wing, Haywood from the top, and another dagger from Campbell—pushing the margin to 78-37 by the 10:59 mark. Cal Poly Humboldt briefly answered with a small spurt, but a technical foul on the Lumberjacks at 8:20 sent White to the line and steadied the Pioneers' grip. From there, East Bay cruised, emptying the bench and closing out win number 14 in authoritative fashion.

Saturday's victory also marked the program's highest single-game point total since December 2021, when the Pioneers put up 105 against Cal State LA.

Tyree Campbell led a balanced attack with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting, including 4-for-5 on 3-pointers, and a team-high seven rebounds. White added 13 points with three 3-pointers among his four field goals. Ramsey Huff chipped in 11 points, buoyed by five free throws and two 3-pointers. As a team, the Pioneers ripped 15-for-33 from beyond the arc and finished at an even 50.0 percent from the field.

East Bay's defense was just as suffocating. The Pioneers (14-0) piled up 13 steals—four by Matthew Williams—and turned them into 22 fast-break points. They dominated the glass 45-27 and shared it beautifully with 26 assists, the most by any CCAA team in a game this season. The Lumberjacks were held to 38.6 percent shooting and just 2-for-14 on 3-pointers.

"Tremendous effort by our team tonight. Coach [Mikey Eggleton] presented a great defensive plan for our guys and they executed at a high level. We are excited for the opportunity to keep improving," head coach Bryan Rooney said.

Cal State East Bay heads back on the road next week to face UC Merced on Thursday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation & Wellness Center in Merced, California. Thursday's matchup will be the first between the Pioneers and Bobcats in CCAA action.
