SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Cal State East Bay volleyball Cal State San Bernardino on Friday evening but fell in straight sets (10-25, 16-25, 16-25) in CCAA play. The Pioneers moved to 13-10 overall and 10-5 in CCAA play.
Jada Stone led the East Bay offense with eight kills and four assists, while
Barakat Adekola added six kills, seven digs, and an ace.
Fane Paua was efficient in the middle, hitting .444 with four kills on nine swings and contributing three block assists. Setter Piʻilani Carvalho directed the offense with 18 assists and added four digs and two block assists. Defensively, Kaleʻa Kuamoʻo anchored the back row with a team-high 19 digs.
In the opening set, Cal State San Bernardino came out firing, hitting .429 as a team. The Pioneers got kills from Adekola, Stone, and
Natali Herrera, but an early 7-2 deficit proved difficult to overcome as the Coyotes took the set 25-10.
East Bay found its rhythm in the second frame, with Paua and Herrera providing quick kills to keep the set close early. Adekola and Stone helped the Pioneers pull within one at 6-5, and a block from Herrera and Adams tied the score. However, the Coyotes' offense surged late to give CSUSB a 25-16 win.
CSUSB put the match away in the third with another 25-16 win despite just a 12-11 kill advantage.
The Pioneers continue their Southern California road trip Saturday, facing Cal Poly Pomona in another key CCAA matchup.
