HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team lost a home game to Cal State San Bernardino, falling 73-56 in a CCAA matchup on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, California.
The Pioneers struggled to find their rhythm early, trailing 24-15 after the first quarter. Despite a more evenly matched second quarter, Cal State East Bay couldn't close the gap, entering halftime down 38-29.
The third quarter proved decisive as the Coyotes extended their lead, outscoring the Pioneers 20-14. CSUSB's strong defensive effort forced 25 turnovers, which they converted into 24 points throughout the game.
- Lailah Carey and Ariyah Smith led Cal State East Bay's scoring with 10 points each. Carey shot 3-for-8 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line (4-for-4), while Smith went 5-for-12 from the floor.
- Sierra Morris contributed nine points and led the team with seven rebounds. She also recorded a pair of steals.
- CSUSB shot 44.1 percent in field goals to Cal State East Bay's 38.6 percent.
- The Pioneers outrebounded the Coyotes, 40-33.

"It was a rough weekend for us as we didn't play our brand of basketball. We are facing adversity with injuries but as a group we still need to play hard and compete and find a way to play hard for 40 minutes."
