Pioneer Women's Basketball Drops Second Straight Road Game on Saturday

LOS ANGELES - Cal State East Bay women's basketball was unable to keep up on Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers dropped their second game in a row, losing 79-46 against Cal State LA.

GAME SUMMARY

The contest began with a tight first quarter, with Cal State LA holding a slim 18-14 advantage. However, the Golden Eagles began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 17-6 to take a 35-20 lead into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point of the game, as Cal State LA erupted for 33 points while limiting Cal State East Bay to just 9. This offensive explosion, coupled with stifling defense, effectively put the game out of reach. Although East Bay had a 17-11 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles maintained their control, cruising to the 33-point victory.

  • Aunika Hornung led the Pioneers in scoring with eight points, shooting 4-for-9 from the floor. She also contributed defensively with three blocks.

The matchup is scheduled for Thursday, January 23, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, California. Following the game, a special ceremony will be held to thank Pioneer Hall of Famer Rich Sherratt for his generous video board donation.
